What is Performance Consulting?
Performance Consulting is an essential and collaborative process during which the Performance Consultant and key Stakeholders work together in a unique blend of multi-disciplinary capabilities and expertise to:
1. Produce a gap analysis between the current and the desired performance.
2. Define "success", its feasibility and how it will be measured.
3. Identify the root causes for the gap.
4. Develop a solution that takes all impacting factors into account.
5. Gain the approval and commitment for support from top management (strategic).
6. Plan the implementation.
7. Sell the idea and its “why’s” and communicate the project.
8. Deploy the solution.
9. Monitor the progress, adjust the plan and intervene whenever necessary.
10. Finalise the project (phasing out, continuous learning and improvement).

The common trap
Human Performance issues are complex and unpredictable by nature.
Unfortunately, all too often decision makers rely excessively on (wrong) assumptions when it comes to a performance problem, as well as to its solution. They put the emphasis on a fast deployment of a “simplistic” solution while ignoring the other steps (see above), which they describe as “unnecessary, because we know.” On the other hand, the deployment of the solution is often limited to a single event such as “a two day seminar about Leadership”, for example.
Attitudes like “we know” and “we don’t have much time” are serious threats to success.
“One shot solutions” do not provide sustainable change and results!
“Instant coffee solutions” do not exist!
